SAARC bands –    South Asian bands festival

SEHER organised a much appreciated cultural evening at the Prime Minister’s dinner on the occasion of this SAARC Summit in 2007. Thereafter, the flagship event of the SAARC CULTURAL FESTIVAL — the SAARC Bands Festival was conceived, designed and implemented by SEHER in November-December at the Central Park, Connaught Place in 2007. Since 2007, Delhi has seen seven, successful editions of the South Asian Bands Festival, at the Purana Qila.

The festival editions presented music from around SAARC countries. The diversity of music that exists in the south asian region is what connects the hearts of the people.

Each edition of the three-day festival was a confluence of bands both established and young from the SAARC countries. The flagship event, over the years became a must-watch event in Delhi. Unique in its appeal and pioneer in bringing people to people connection and SAARC music together, the South Asian Bands Festival remains a landmark event for the Government of India till date.

Curator’s note –

“Music binds people. Whatever may be the differences in our thoughts, this annual festival brought various groups of talented musicians from across the SAARC nations. It resonated deeply with the younger generation, as its primary design was to strike a chord with the youth through programs tailored to their interests and preferences. With festivals like these, people get to hear new and upcoming musicians from not just India but other countries as well. If there is one thing that transcends geographies and language, it is music. This festival celebrated the shared heritage of SAARC countries and we are proud that we conceptualised, curated and produced this marvellous event.”
