In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and India, Seher, in collaboration with Nami Island Arts & Education (NAE), conceptualised and produced the Korea-India Artist’s Camp. This transformative initiative aimed to foster cultural exchange and celebrate the artistic synergy between the two nations.
The camp, officially launched on September 5, 2023, in Seoul. Themed “Tagore and Nature – A River,” the camp hosted 20 distinguished artists, 10 from each of the two countries, including luminaries like Samindranath Majumdar, Japani Shyam, Farhad Hussain, and Korean artist Dongock Song to paint on the sam theme at Nami Island, Korea.
Nurturing Creative Minds also took center stage in art workshops for students, featuring insightful sessions by Samindranath Majumdar, Japani Shyam, and Farhad Hussain, sparking vibrant discussions on the power of visual storytelling. Korean artist Dongock Song conducted hands-on demonstrations, providing students with a firsthand glimpse into the artistic process.
Adding a layer of cultural immersion, Gangwon Ani High School students visited Nami Island, experiencing the colourful art activities of the participating artists. The camp crescendoed with an illuminating Art Talk by Mr. Woohyon Kang, Vice President of Nami Island, held at the Nami Island Handicraft Studio. The concluding night, hosted by His Excellency Mr. Amit Kumar, Ambassador of India, featured the unveiling of the artists’ final works on the theme “Tagore and Nature: A River.”
Attended by dignitaries including Mr. Sanjeev Bhargava, Founder & Director at Seher, Mr. Fred Minn, CEO, NAE, Chairman & Vice-chairman of Naminara Republic, Ms. Ananya Agarwal, First Secretary (Culture), and Mr. Anil Sinha, Chairman of ICK, the event celebrated the profound contributions of these artists to cultural exchange through art. The Korea-India Artist’s Camp not only nurtured creative minds but also symbolised a harmonious confluence of artistic expression and cross-cultural understanding.
