Delhi Jazz Festival
Jazz music in India was considered only for the older generation and to be done in small auditoriums. SEHER decided to conceptualize and produce a Jazz festival in an outdoor location like Nehru Park in Delhi on a world-class scale, with an exceptional setting and brilliant sound and lights. A new era of Jazz and Blues for the people of India began in the spring of 2011 and the Delhi Jazz Festival was born where ambassadors and high commissioners sat down on the ground to enjoy the music and young people swayed to the lilting Jazz from diverse countries like Poland, Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Germany and France.
The festival went on to become one of the biggest congregations of Jazz lovers ever seen in India.
Curator’s Note:
“The Delhi Jazz Festival was a bold initiative. The curation had to be perfect as Delhi Jazz was competing with the likes of the London Jazz Festival, Tokyo Jazz Festival and others! Delhi Jazz Festival was not far behind in terms of technical and aesthetic presentation, authenticity of curation and locating some of the most cutting-edge Jazz and Blues performers from all over the world. The festival also saw a brilliant collaboration between one of the best Scottish Jazz bands and Indian folk and classical music.”
