Project Bandaloop

International collaborations are one of the core strengths of Seher. An amalgamation of cultures and organising events that expose the Indian audience to art and music from all over the world is at the core of what Seher does.

Project Bandaloop is a testament to the same. Organized by Seher in collaboration with Delhi Tourism, the US Embassy and American Center, the performance by Project Bandaloop in Delhi was part of a follow-up event of public diplomacy after the recent visit of US President Barack Obama to India.

Project Bandaloop is an internationally acclaimed vertical dance ensemble from the US. They seek to free contemporary dance from confined spaces and enthrall the common man. Their unique routines in open spaces are a way to raise awareness about immediate surroundings, environment, built landscape etc.

In an enchanting and immersive performance, they performed on the Jeevan Bharati LIC building in Delhi’s Connaught Place. We selected it because it was all glass. The shadow of the dancers would reflect on the glass building. When they danced it was picturesque and we did one afternoon and one evening show. At the futuristic LIC building designed by Charles Correa in the 1980s, the group performed acts titled ‘Flags’, ’Triple Dress’, ‘Men’s Rope Play’ etc in a variety of combinations.

Founder’s Note:

“Project Bandaloop was a challenge. Their performances are a mix of aerial and vertical dancing. To ensure a memorable performance on the LIC building was a challenge and what an accomplishment it was for Seher to be bringing such an iconic dance company to perform in the middle of Connaught Place for the public of Delhi and it remains  one of the most unique acts that Delhi has ever witnessed.”
