Honouring M.S. Subbulakshmi

June 1, 2004

In June 2004, Seher along with the Delhi Commission of Women celebrated the lifetime achievements of the legendary Carnatic Vocalist M. S. Subbulakshmi. In recognition of her unparalleled contribution to the world of music, the Government of Delhi bestowed upon her the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The evening was adorned with poignant tributes that celebrated Subbulakshmi’s legacy. A short audio-visual presentation, skilfully crafted by the renowned photographer Avinash Pasricha, unfolded like a tapestry of memories, capturing the essence of the legend’s journey in vivid detail.

This was followed by a Bharatanatyam recital by Priyadarshini Govind based on Subbulakshmi’s krithis.

Curators Note:

“As a devotee of art, music and culture this event is very close to my heart. This tribute wasn’t merely an event, it was an acknowledgment of a virtuoso who had gifted the world with melodies that transcended generations. Through this celebration, Seher sought to immortalise her legacy, to honour her dedication, and to ensure that her influence on the cultural landscape would continue to echo through the corridors of time.”
